Kristen Modafferi of Charlotte was last seen on June 23, 1997, leaving her job at a coffeehouse in San Francisco. The rising sophomore at N.C. State University had moved there for the summer to work and take a class at the University of California at Berkeley.

On the 15th anniversary of Kristen Modafferi’s disappearance, organizers of a foundation for missing adults will gather Saturday in Frazier Park to remember her.
Modafferi, a Providence High School graduate, was 18 when she was last seen on June 23, 1997, leaving her job at a coffeehouse in San Francisco. The rising sophomore – and Park Scholar – at N.C. State University had moved there for the summer to work and take a class at the University of California at Berkeley.
A year after her disappearance, police said they suspected foul play. But her case remains unsolved.
Joan Scanlon-Petruski, a neighbor of Modafferi’s parents’, created the Kristen Foundation, which gives assistance to families searching for missing and endangered adults. The foundation has provided search teams with equipment and placed “missing person” billboards across the country.
On Saturday, organizers will gather at 10 a.m. at the Children’s Memorial Walkway in Frazier Park to remember Modafferi and others missing from the Charlotte area. Scanlon-Petruski is inviting area families with missing loved ones to join them and seek help from the foundation.

Find Kristen Website

http://www.findkristen.com/

This is a link to a website created by Dennis Mahon, a friend of the Modafferi's, to help locate information regarding Kristen's whereabouts.  Please take a look!!

Official FBI statistics say that 76.4% of the time, when a woman meets with foul play - she knew her assailant(s). An FBI agent told me personally that the percentage is much higher: 'It's more like 90%", he said.

Take your pick. The odds are between 76.4% and 90.0% that Kristen Modafferi knew whoever the person(s) are that caused her harm.

ImportantKristen was only in the Bay Area for 23 days. June 1st, 1997 - June 23rd, 1997 before she vanished. She barely knew anyone.

As far as we know - she only knew about 30-35 people. Just based on the FBI stats - there is a very good chance that one of these 30-35 people at the very least have some kind of information relative to Kristen's disappearance.

With the exception of Jon Onuma, every name listed on the left hand side of this webpage is listed only because they had some contact with Kristen in her short stay in the San Fran Bay Area. (Roommates,  co-workers and a few friends).

They got to meet her. That is it.

Names listed beneath Jon Onuma (in blue) are listed only because I came to learn of their identity through looking at Jon Onuma. Everyone listed - except Jon Onuma - is presumed completely innocent.

I have always felt that the FBI stat is an important one and with the power of Google and Facebook - it would be irresponsible to Kristen to not at least try this in an effort to gain some info as to what happened to her back on June 23rd, 1997.

Kristen Modafferi - 1997 - San Francisco, CA

Kristen ModafferiKristen had completed her freshman year in the School of Design at North Carolina State University, one of a close knit group of twenty-five students on academic scholarship through the Park Foundation. Kristen was encouraged, like her fellow students, to plan an enriching "summer experience", either domestically or abroad, and be prepared to share the adventure with the group of Park Scholars on returning to NC State University for their sophomore year.
Kristen had researched and planned a summer filled with life experiences in a big city, San Francisco, where she would work, live on her own, and take photography courses at the University of California at Berkeley to compliment her major, Industrial Design. Departing for San Francisco on her 18th Birthday, on June 1, 1997, she found employment Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Spinelli's Coffee Shop in the financial district of downtown San Francisco. She had just started a second job on weekends at the Café Museo at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. She was planning to start class at Berkeley on June 24, 1997. The day before, June 23, 1997, Kristen left work after her shift at Spinelli's, and completely disappeared without a trace. The case remains unsolved, but the determination of all of us to find the answers we need remain strong.
Kristen's case is classified as an "at-risk" abduction, and was recently profiled on America's Most Wanted. More information about the search for Kristen can be found on the web, at www.modlink.com/kristen.
Our family wishes to acknowledge the ongoing prayers, encouragement, and support of many, many people who have heard about our daughter's disappearance. We gain strength from all of you, and we offer our heartfelt thanks and appreciation. God bless you all.
